Bezorgde burgers overhandigen gedicht en spons om de blackface van zwarte piet af te wassen met de boodschap dat we in 2016 zwarte piet niet meer willen zien. Zwarte Piet is racisme, dehumaniserend en beledigend voor (zwarte) Amsterdammers. De burgemeester moet zich schamen dat hij deze racistische traditie blijft ondersteunen. Zwarte Piet hoort thuis in het museum.

Zwarte Piet (Blackface, Black Pete) is a very offensive character that appears annually in a so called ‘children’s tradition’. The struggle to get this slavery-connected figure abandoned has been intensified the last couple of years. In spite of being condemned on charges of racism by the UN some Dutch people hang on to what they call ‘tradition’.

EN: #KickOutZwartePiet demonstration at national Saint Nicolas parade in Meppel
Actiegroep Kick Out Zwarte Piet heeft vandaag in Meppel, tijdens de landelijke intocht van Sinterklaas, een vreedzame demonstratie gehouden tegen de racistische karikatuur zwarte piet. Kick Out Zwarte Piet wilde hiermee kenbaar maken dat de NTR en andere organisatoren van het Sinterklaasfeest hun plicht verzaken door het Sinterklaasfeest niet voor álle Nederlandse kinderen een feest te maken. Volgens KOZP moet zwarte piet verdwijnen zodat het Sinterklaasfeest een feest is voor alle kinderen.

Op de vooravond van Sinterklaas was Sylvana Simons te gast bij Pauw om in gesprek te gaan over de traditie, die langzaam maar zeker aan het veranderen is. Sylvana, heeft zich net als andere bekende en minder bekende Nederlanders, al vaker uitgesproken voor verandering van de figuur zwarte piet.
