MAD mothers march

MAD mothers meeting

On Friday the 19th of June at 7 pm, MAD Mothers NL and University Of Colour have organized a meeting for activists and students from all across the country.

Our main speaker of the event will be none other than Anthony Grimes. Anthony Grimes is the leading figure of the Denver Freedom Riders. Anthony Grimes is a pastor, writer, community animator and founding member of the Denver Freedom Riders. The surge of gang-related violence that tormented his Park Hill neighbourhood in Denver in the 1990’s drove him to engage in a range of social and community activities, all with the aim of alleviating the social ills of the city and redeeming the soul of America.

He received his BA in Speech Communication and Ethnic Studies at Colorado State University before receiving a Master of Divinity degree from Denver Seminary. Upon receiving two of the top honours of the school, Grimes went on to become pastor of his own parish – the Park Hill Parish – a community-based grouping that seeks to strengthen ties of solidarity in Denver. As well as being a founding member of the Denver Freedom Riders, he is a leader in the Christian Community Development Association, a graduate of the Black Chamber Connect Program, and a special student of the late Black-led freedom movement icon, Dr. Vincent Harding.

In addition, the panel will be joined by several speakers from anti-racist organizations and the University Of Colour. They will share their experiences and ideas, which will be followed by a dialogue with the audience.

The University of Colour is a student organization that started within the Maagdenhuis student Revolution. The University of Colour is, among other things, an intersectional anti-racism student organization whose aim is to decolonize and diversify the university. Their demands can be found here: http://universityofcolour.com/post/114571407193/the-demands-of-the-university-of-colour

MAD Mothers NL is a national platform for and by enthusiastic, righteous and militant mothers who stand up for the Rights of Black & Brown Children.

For this event we will make sure to invite different students organizations so we can have lively and uplifting debates. The goal is to empower the current generation of students in their activism and to uplift all of our spirits, strategies, networks, goals and much more.
